Indianapolis Spotlight: The Fountain Room

Indianapolis Entertainment News

The Fountain Room is a highly-regarded and stylish dining spot in Indianapolis. Here is a comprehensive overview of the restaurant, covering its unique appeal, history, menu highlights, customer feedback, event spaces, and contact details.

💎 What Makes The Fountain Room Unique

The Fountain Room is Indianapolis’s premiere “Supper Club with a modern twist,” blending fine dining with a relaxed, social atmosphere. Its uniqueness stems from:

  • Atmosphere and Design: It evokes the golden age of the American supper club and the Jazz Era steakhouse. The interior features stunning Art Deco styling with velvet banquettes, detailed millwork, repeating geometric patterns, and glowing chandeliers.

  • Location History: It is located in the historic Bottleworks District, which was once the site of the largest Coca-Cola bottling plant in the world 100 years ago. This rich history is woven into the restaurant’s aesthetic.

  • The Concept: It deliberately aims to be a stylish departure from traditional steakhouses, offering high style and warm hospitality that feels both formal and accessible. The inclusion of classic supper club elements, like a pickled relish tray and a reel-to-reel machine, enhances the nostalgic experience.

📜 History of the Location and Restaurant

Bottleworks District History

The building itself is a fine example of Art Deco commercial architecture. A century ago, this site was a massive Coca-Cola bottling plant, producing 2.25 million bottles per week. The building’s ornate brass doors, terrazzo floors, and shiny white exterior were designed to be a showplace, reflecting the iconic shape of the cola bottle.

Restaurant History

The Fountain Room is a concept by Clancy’s Hospitality, a company with deep roots in Indiana’s restaurant history, tracing back to the 1960s with a small burger joint named “Clancy’s.”

  • The restaurant was opened by Blake Fogelsong, part of the family that owns Clancy’s Hospitality.

  • The inspiration for the “nostalgic cross between a classic jazz-era steakhouse and a Wisconsin supper club” came from a trip Blake Fogelsong took with his father.

  • The restaurant was a key part of the upscale Bottleworks District redevelopment and was designed by Phanomen/Design to be sensitive to the building’s historic surroundings while offering a new, upscale dining experience.
